Hot-shooting Michigan State tops Minnesota in Big Ten opener

Coen Carr scored 12 points to help lead Michigan State to a 90-72 win over Minnesota in the Big Ten opener for both teams on Wednesday in Minneapolis. Carr led a balanced scoring attack for the Spartans (7-2, 1-0 Big Ten), who had four players score in double figures and two others contribute nine points. Jaxon Kohler had 11 points and 11 rebounds, Xavier Booker also put up 11 points, and Jeremy Fears Jr. scored 10 points for Michigan State. Szymon Zapala and Jaden Akins each added nine points. The Spartans shot the ball well, hitting 52.7 percent from the field overall (29 of 55), 50 percent from 3-point range (11 of 22) and 80.
