The Gonzaga women’s cross country team fought its way up from last at the 1K mark to grab 25th at the NCAA Championships at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin. Wil Smith, the lone individual qualifier from the men’s team, delivered a resilient performance to secure 59th in the 10K race.
After finishing fourth at the NCAA West Region Championships, the GU women earned an at-large berth to nationals, marking their second-ever appearance at the event. Smith, competing individually, represented the men's team after their sixth-place regional finish left them just short of qualification.
“This weekend was such an amazing opportunity for us to go against the top programs in the country,” said senior Willow Collins.
