Gonzaga thumps UW 98-71 in renewal game of intrastate rivalry

For the first time in 10 years, the University of Washington stepped on the McCarthey Athletic Center court only to be blown out 98-71.

From the tip, the Zags were off and running, jumping out to a 16-4 lead within five minutes.

Redshirt junior Johnathan Williams scored the first seven points for the Bulldogs and senior Jordan Mathews pitched in the next nine points punctuated by a four-point play.

This was Mathews’ best game since the first week of the season. He scored 14 points and continued to shoot well from the free-throw line (4 of 4).
