Jenn Wirth scored 15 points and LeeAnne Wirth added 14 as the Zags used a huge second quarter (and beginning of the third) to build up enough of a cushion to keep Pacific from pulling off the upset, 77-65.
With seven minutes left in the second quarter, the Gonzaga led by two, 22-20. With 7:43 left in the third quarter, the Zags had extended that lead to 51-21. During that time, the Zags forced seven of the Tigers 14 turnovers, and it looked like the game was completely in hand.
The Tigers had other plans, however. Pacific finished the game outscoring the Zags 27-15 in the final 10 minutes, but it didn’t matter much because of the mid-third quarter deficit.
