The Zags, the No. 2 seed in the regional, knocked off No. 3-seeded Arizona State 5-1 in the first game of the Forth Worth Regional at Lupton Stadium in Forth Worth, Texas on Friday.
Brandon Bailey, the Zags’ No. 1 starter, picked up the win for GU. He threw 125 pitches and surrendered one run over seven innings. Sam Hellinger gave up one hit and pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
The Bulldogs offense did its damage early, scoring two in the first and the second inning and one in the third inning.
Taylor Jones hit an RBI double and Justin Jacobs scored on a fielder’s choice to put the Zags’ up 2-0 in the first.
