On a raucous Monday night at Luger Field, the Zags were treated to a packed house for their regular-season home opener against the Cal Poly Mustangs.
The first half saw the Zags win the possession battle, but the two best scoring chances fell to the Mustangs. In the 17th minute, Mustangs midfielder Diego Alonso pulled a shot just wide in a one-on-one opportunity. The, in the 40th minute, Zags goalkeeper Ben Willis made a save on a free header off a cross into the box.
In the second half, the Zags stepped up their offensive pressure. But again, Willis was forced into duty, denying the Mustangs a scoring opportunity in the 51st minute.
