The Missouri softball team (24-22, 6-12 Southeastern Conference) lost an upset bid late at No. 12 South Carolina as it dropped the first game of the series 6-3 Friday.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead courtesy of a two-run double by freshman catcher Trenity Edwards in the second inning. They padded onto that thanks to sophomore shortstop Braxton Burnside's sac fly in the top of the third.
The Gamecocks (35-11, 9-7), however, answered back with a pair of home runs as part of a five-run fifth inning.
The loss snaps Missouri's three-game winning streak — its longest since the start of SEC play.
