CLEMSON — While the eyes of Clemson Tiger fans have been glued to the quarterback battle, namely true freshman Trevor Lawrence, another true freshman has done nothing but turn heads in spring camp — wide receiver Derion Kendrick.
The former South Pointe High School (Rock Hill) quarterback led his team to its fourth straight state championship as a senior. However, the Tigers targeted Kendrick as a wide receiver and that was OK with Kendrick, whose outstanding speed, physicality and intangibles have him drawing pretty impressive comparisons from the Tiger coaching staff.
“He reminds me of Sammy (Watkins),” co-offensive coordinator and running back coach Tony Elliott said.
