The Charlotte football program, after taking a fourth consecutive loss on Saturday, fired coach Biff Poggi on Monday. Associate head coach Tim Brewster was appointed the interim head coach of the 49ers, who have a 3-7 overall record, 2-4 in the American Athletic Conference. Poggi, 64, produced a 6-16 mark in his two seasons in charge at Charlotte. Athletic director Mike Hill said in a statement, "I am thankful to Biff Poggi for his leadership and mentorship of our student-athletes over these past two seasons. No one can question Biff's passion for helping young people succeed in life, both personally and professionally, but our on-field results have unfortunately fallen short of everyone's expectations.
