The Zags (10-7, 1-1) rallied late for four runs, but came up short in a 7-4 loss to Pepperdine (9-9, 1-1) on Saturday night at Patterson Field.
Kiko Garcia, (4-4, 6.53 ERA) who started for the Waves, breezed through his first seven scoreless innings.
“He was really getting ahead of guys, he was mixing all three pitches well,” GU starting pitcher Hunter Wells said. “I think he did a great job … he through pitches for strikes, which is what you want to do as a starter.”
GU finally broke through in the bottom of the eight, when Tyler Frost hit a towering shot over the right field wall for his second home run of the season.
