Most know James Brown as a television personality, seen on Sunday afternoons talking with his studio analysts about the NFL and that day’s games.
Older viewers may remember Brown from his play-by-play days. He certainly does, especially his first game and the disaster that it was.
Brown’s first assignment pitted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Atlanta Falcons. Brown had just made it big in the business. And after a clean first half of play-by-play, Brown thought he had taken his new gig by storm.
“I thought, ‘Football isn’t that difficult.’ I got cocky, complacent,” Brown said Tuesday morning, perched up in his blue suit in Bowling Green State University’s Bowen Thompson Student Union.
