Better doesn't mean bigger for Boise State safety DeAndre Pierce

BOISE — Some of his teammates gained as much as 20 points from their listed weight last season to the start of spring practices earlier this month. At least nine players added at 10-plus pounds from 2017, including fellow starting safety Kekoa Nawahine.

It’s just not that easy for DeAndre Pierce.

For the second offseason in a row Pierce has focused on adding weight and getting bigger with little success. He’s listed on the spring roster at 5-foot-11, 174-pounds, the exact same numbers as last fall.

“He’s got to get a little bigger, same thing as last year,” safeties coach Gabe Franklin said.
