TUSCALOOSA — Alabama played it safe with two valuable pieces.
The Crimson Tide withheld star defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick and place-kicker Andy Pappanastos from Saturday’s 56-0 win over Mercer in hopes both can return to full health before Saturday’s Iron Bowl.
Fitzpatrick was not spotted during any of the open portions of practice this week, though he was seen entering the facility on Wednesday donning a black, non-contact jersey.
“Hopefully, Minkah will be able to practice this week and we’ll be able to get him back,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said afterward.
Fitzpatrick hurt his hamstring in the first quarter of the Tide’s Nov.
