TUSCALOOSA — One of Nick Saban’s longest-tenured confidants is departing Alabama.
Bobby Williams, a Crimson Tide staff member since 2008, is headed to Oregon as an on-field assistant coach. The Oregonian reported Williams signed a two-year contract worth $300,000 per year as the ninth assistant on new coach Mario Cristobal’s staff.
Williams and Cristobal worked together under Saban at Alabama from 2013-16.
After Saban departed for LSU in 2000, Williams succeeded him as head coach at Michigan State, where he went 16-17 in three full seasons.
Following a one-year stint in the NFL as the Lions receivers coach, Williams reunited with his former boss.
