MOBILE — Former Alabama cornerback Anthony Averett “gutted out” the Crimson Tide’s two College Football Playoff games while dealing with a lingering sprained ankle that caused him to withdraw from the Senior Bowl, executive director Phil Savage revealed Monday night.
Averett and classmate Rashaan Evans were two of 30 players who accepted invitations before rescinding their commitments in the days leading up to the week-long festivities, which began on Monday.
“(Averett) sort of gutted it out to get through those last two games,” said Savage, who also serves as the color analyst on Alabama football radio broadcasts.
