ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - In 2006, Zach Johnson already had notched his first PGA Tour victory, but he wanted to get better. So when Morris Pickens (aka “Dr. Mo”), a sports psychologist and performance specialist, approached Johnson with a plan for improvement, he was willing to listen.
At the time, Johnson ranked 153rd in par-5 scoring and 182nd in birdie-or-better percentage on par 5s (35 percent). Johnson realized that if he were going to separate himself from the competition in one part of the game, it would be wedge play.
