Zach Johnson in Sony Open hunt, but trails behind hot Kisner, Snedeker

HONOLULU — Keeping track of the hot news in the first two rounds of the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club has hardly been a problem for Zach Johnson.

All he has had to do is look in front of him where Brandt Snedeker and Kevin Kisner were busy making a combined 23 birdies and 2 eagles for 12 and 11 under, respectively.

Johnson smiled.

“Not going to sit here and say I’m surprised,” Johnson said. “I expected them to go out and have a good day and that was the case.”

Among five who were tied for the lead at 7 under to start Friday’s second round, Snedeker shot 5-under 65 to seize the clubhouse lead, while Kisner had 66.
