Woodland WDs from Match Play for 'family matter'

AUSTIN, Texas – Gary Woodland withdrew from the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play before his Day 2 match against Rory McIlroy, citing a “family matter” according to his manager Mark Steinberg.

Woodland defeated Emiliano Grillo on Day 1, 3 and 2, and was scheduled to tee off at 2:16 p.m. for his second match.

Because of Woodland’s withdrawal, Soren Kjeldsen, who upset McIlroy on Wednesday, needs to only halve his match against Grillo to assure he advances out of group play and earns a spot in the Sweet 16, which begins on Saturday.
