Woodland keeps foot on the pedal, scores ticket to Match Play semis

SAN FRANCISCO – Gary Woodland had a ticket to Saturday night’s big fight, too, only he’s really enjoying the one he’s currently in. That would be the WGC-Cadillac Match Play, where the long-hitting Woodland advanced to the final-day semis after a pair of victories on Saturday.

He’s eager to meet Englishman Danny Willett shortly after dawn on Sunday, simply because he’s the next man daring to step in front of him.

Saturday afternoon, the unfortunate assignment of taking on the confident Woodland, ranked 52nd in the world but playing at a higher level, fell to Australia’s John Senden, who didn’t have a whole lot of fun in the spot.
