NORTON, Mass. – When Rory McIlroy won the 2012 Deutsche Bank Championship he received the winner’s check ($8 million), the trophy and a champion’s belt.
It was the last time the winner at TPC Boston received the belt, which features a silver buckle and resembles something that’s given to the winner of a heavyweight title bout.
The belt is also inscribed with the tournament name, Deutsche Bank Championship, which after this year will no longer apply since EMC is taking over title sponsorship beginning next season.
“This is obviously the last time that Deutsche Bank is sponsoring it, so I get to keep it,” laughed McIlroy, who rallied from six strokes back on Monday to beat Paul Casey by two strokes.
