Denny McCarthy has already graduated from the University of Virginia. However, he has put off turning professional for a shot at making the U.S. Walker Cup team.
“I think it’d be an awesome honor being part of that team,” McCarthy told Golfweek earlier this summer. “It’s been a goal of mine ever since I came to college."
McCarthy, who made the cut at the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay and is ranked 15th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, isn't a lock to make the team for the Sept. 12-13 matches at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, but he does have a good chance.
