AKRON, Ohio – William McGirt may want to start looking for real estate in the Buckeye state. If not for the Cleveland Indians, winners of 12 straight games, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who captured the city’s first sports title in more than 50 years, he’d be the hottest in-state sports entity this side of the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
McGirt won The Memorial last month outside of Columbus, Ohio, and fired a bogey-free 6-under 64 in the opening round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club to grab a three-stroke lead over a quartet of players.
