Will Wilcox withdrew from the Deutsche Bank Championship on Wednesday, citing a knee injury as the reason for his departure.

In a statement on his website, Wilcox pointed to a Monday incident in which he slammed his right knee into his rental car dashboard in explaining the injury. He further elaborated that rest and ice treatment didn't help and more follow-up with medical experts revealed deep bruising in the patellar tendon that made it too uncomfortable to play.

Those among the top 100 in the FedEx Cup points standings were eligible for the Deutsche Bank Championship, and Sergio Garcia had been the only one among that group who opted not to play this week.
