Wie withdraws after opening-round 78

Michelle Wie withdrew from the Kingsmill LPGA Championship after posting a 7-over 78 in the first round.

Wie made only one birdie in her opener against six bogeys and a double bogey, and her score left her ahead of only two women in the 144-player field. Several onlookers tweeted that Wie was limping after signing her card, and the LPGA announced her withdrawal shortly thereafter:

The withdrawal marks the latest setback for Wie, who has yet to get on track this year and remains in search of her first top-10 finish.
