Wentworth Golf Club members have threatened legal action against Chinese owners Reignwood over plans to levy a $167,000 debenture and reduce membership numbers from 4,000 to 800.
Members have appointed the law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan to try to force Reignwood to abandon the new membership structure. The law firm has sent a 15-page letter to Reignwood claiming the new owners will breach a 50-year-old legal trust agreement, violate equality laws and possibly break Chinese law.
“The Proposed Membership Structure will fundamentally change the nature and character of the club and the Wentworth estate and is unacceptable.
