Watson withdraws from D. Bank pro-am with back pain

NORTON, Mass. – Bubba Watson withdrew from the Deutsche Bank Championship pro-am Thursday at TPC Boston because of back pain, but he’s expected to tee it up in Friday’s first round, according to the PGA Tour.

Watson is in the featured pairing with Jason Day and Jordan Spieth, scheduled to go off at 9:30 a.m. Day is first in the FedEx Cup points standings, Spieth is second and Watson is third.

Watson suffered a mild strain in his back playing last weekend at The Barclays, according to the Associated Press, but he has received therapy the last three days and withdrew as a precaution to give his back another day of rest.
