Scotland’s Craig Watson will captain the 2017 Great Britain & Ireland team in the Walker Cup Matches against the United States at Los Angeles Country Club.
Watson, 49, takes over the captaincy from Welshman Nigel Edwards, who led the GB&I team to a record 16½–9½ victory at Royal Lytham in 2015. Edwards served for an unprecedented three terms as GB&I captain, winning twice.
Watson, a Scot, won the 1997 Amateur Championship at Royal St. George’s, defeating future Masters winner Trevor Immelman, 3 and 2. He made his one and only appearance in the Walker Cup later that year, winning 1 1/2 points of a possible three as the U.
