SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – One would think that Bubba Watson would have the Waste Management Phoenix Open triple-circled on his schedule each year in bold ink, for it’s been a very bountiful cash grab. Nine career starts and no trophy yet, but a pair of runner-up finishes alone in the last two years has delivered more than $1 million to the Watson family bank account. That covers a lot of formula for his young daughter.
Watson’s scoring average at the Phoenix Open is a tidy 68.24, and he’s never shot a single round over par in the event – not even in the one year (2008) he failed to make the cut at TPC Scottsdale.
