NAPA, Calif. – Never mind that Tyrone Van Aswegen finished a shot out of the Frys.com Open playoff.

It was remarkable that he even teed it up Sunday at Silverado.

The 33-year-old South African was still in a Napa-area hospital an hour before his final-round tee time because of severe hydration and vertigo.

Van Aswegen said that he woke up with “serious dizziness” and “the room was spinning.” He was checked out by an on-site physician and taken away in an ambulance. At the hospital, he received two bags of IV fluids. He said he was still in a hospital bed an hour before his tee time – and was fortunate that the start times were pushed back 20 minutes because of fog.
