Earlier this week, the U.S. Golf Association announced changes to its handicap system, including a prohibition that a round played as a solo cannot count toward one's handicap.
The rule change – not surprisingly – was met with backlash on social media. Even Golf Canada tweeted that it would not adopt the change.
So why did the USGA decide to ban solo rounds from counting for handicap purposes? Well, here's a little clarification from the USGA that was emailed to Golfweek:
