U.S. Women's Open takes center stage in Amish country

LANCASTER, Pa. – On eve of the 70th U.S. Women’s Open, one thing is certain: It will be hard to top Pinehurst.

There’s no double feature this week, no follow-up sequel to the men’s Open at Chambers Bay (Just as well. Those greens!). In Michelle Wie, the 69th edition of the Women’s Open last year got a big-ticket champion. Wie’s emotional victory at Pinehurst No. 2 was a signature moment for the sport, even though it failed to open the proverbial floodgates for the one-time prodigy.

But that’s not to say that, even here in Amish country, we won’t get a little sizzle.
