CHASKA, Minn. -- The United States got off to a rousing start at the Ryder Cup on Friday morning, winning all four foursomes at Hazeltine and sweeping a session for the first time since 1981.
The Americans were wiped out 7-1 two years ago at Gleneagles in the same alternate-shot format. It is the first time they swept the alternate-shot format since 1975 at Laurel Valley -- when Arnold Palmer last captained the team.
In the process, Rickie Fowler won his first career Ryder Cup match -- a 1-up victory with Phil Mickelson over Rory McIlroy and Andy Sullivan.
