HAVEN, Wis. — Collin Morikawa tied his match against Viktor Hovland on Sunday to secure the half-point that clinched a Ryder Cup victory for the Americans in their biennial men’s golf competition against a team from Europe.
Since the mid-1990s, the Europeans had won four of the past five tournaments and nine of the past 12. After Morikawa’s match concluded, his teammates earned an additional four and a half points in other matches, which ultimately turned the American victory into a 19-9 rout. The 19 points are a record in a modern format for the event established in 1979.
