Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are among the top names expected to compete for the title as the 116th U.S. Open gets underway with first-round action on Thursday from Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
Spieth comes into the tournament as the reigning U.S. Open champion after his dramatic 18th-hole win over Dustin Johnson at Chambers Bay in 2015, but is playing his first major since letting the 2016 Masters title slip away to Danny Willett.
Day is this season's FedEx Cup leader and entered the last day of the 2015 tournament in the final pairing before fading, and McIlroy is the 2011 U.
