SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – A third consecutive Palmer Cup ended in a blowout, and once again the home team produced it. A 10-man team featuring the United States’ top college players cruised to an 18-12 victory Sunday over Europe’s best at Rich Harvest Farms.
The tournament went the Americans’ way from the start. The home team jumped to a 4-1 lead after the opening round of foursomes, held on to a 6-4 advantage by the time afternoon four-balls were complete and extended its margin to 13.5-6.5 with a stunning performance in Saturday singles.
Despite the Americans’ wire-to-wire win, the Europeans could barely find fault in their own efforts.
