INCHEON, South Korea – Chris Kirk, the hero of the 2015 Presidents Cup?

Not exactly what you might have thought going into Sunday singles, considering that most observers deemed Kirk's match against Anirban Lahiri, at No. 8, likely to be inconsequential.

Consider that Kirk had compiled an 0-2-0 record going into Sunday: a 2-and-1 four-ball loss with partner Bill Haas to Thongchai Jaidee and Charl Schwartzel on Friday before a 6-and-5 pasting with Jimmy Walker against Sang-Moon Bae and Hideki Matsuyama with in Saturday’s four-ball.

So when captain Jay Haas put up Kirk against India’s Lahiri in singles, it was rookie against rookie and two players who collectively had gone 0-4-0 during the week, with neither having reached the 18th hole.
