Tringale makes an ace on second tee shot

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Cameron Tringale made an ace Tuesday at Chambers Bay during a practice round for the U.S. Open.

Or maybe he didn’t.

There are two different tee boxes on the par-3 ninth hole – one from a higher elevation that plays around 250 yards, the other from an elevation lower than the green that plays around 225 yards.

Tringale, playing in his second U.S. Open and first as a professional, hit a 3-iron from the lower tee box that plugged badly in the right greenside bunker. He teed up another ball and hit a “pure golf shot” that carried the same bunker, rolled about 40 feet and dropped into the hole.
