Tour tweaks round-robin format for Match Play

DORAL, Fla. – For the second consecutive year the WGC-Dell Match Play will move to new digs. It also will have a slightly different format.

For last year’s Match Play at Harding Park in San Francisco, PGA Tour officials initiated a round-robin format that assured all 64 players would participate in the first three rounds.

However, the Tour didn’t allow for half-points (ties) for Rounds 1-3; subsequently, by Friday more than a half-dozen players had no chance of advancing.

For this year’s event, which will be played at Austin (Texas) Country Club, the format will account for ties for the first three days, a move that officials say will keep all but two or three players from facing another meaningless Friday.
