Torrential rain floods St. Andrews, suspends Open

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Torrential rains have flooded the Old Course and suspended the start of the second round at the Open Championship.

R&A officials suspended play at 6:46 a.m. just after the first group set out due to standing water in many of the fairways.

The second round is scheduled to resume at 10 a.m., which would push tee times back more than three hours. The first-round leader Dustin Johnson was scheduled to tee off at 2:34 p.m.

Last year at Royal Liverpool officials used a two-tee start on Saturday to avoid an approaching storm, but it seems unlikely they would do it again this year.
