Tom Gillis (shoulder) back in action at Wells Fargo

CHARLOTTE – Tom Gillis is back at a PGA Tour event for the first time in more than three months.

“I’m not sure who is looking forward to this more, me or my wife,” Gillis said jokingly Tuesday as he headed to the chipping green at Quail Hollow Club, home of this week’s Wells Fargo Championship. “It’s been about three and a half months at home, and she’s ready for me to be out of the house.”

Gillis had surgery to remove two bone spurs in his left shoulder in November. He tried to come back shortly after the New Year, hoping to improve his status before the year’s first reshuffle, and made three starts, but when he saw his takeaway on tape from the Farmers Insurance Open (where he missed the cut), he knew it was time to shut it down and rest a little more.
