Tiger Woods sees 20-shot deficit with 85 at Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio — When Tiger Woods shot 85 in Saturday’s third round of the Memorial Tournament it was surprising and curious at the same time, since the golf course and the conditions seemed to be relatively benign when Woods teed off in the third group of the day.

In fact, two of the three 65s shot on Saturday came from the next two groups immediately following Woods, with Dustin Johnson and Keegan Bradley both shooting 7-under rounds.

A 20-shot difference is a lot at a PGA Tour event, especially after the cut was made.

“I guess it surprises me a little,” said Jim Furyk, the 2002 winner at Memorial, of the large disparity on Saturday.
