Tiger Woods withdrew from the Safeway Open on Monday, three days after committing to play in the season-opening event of the 2016-17 PGA Tour season. In a statement on his website, Woods said that he had every intention of competing, but reconsidered after testing his game in practice rounds in California.
“After a lot of hours, I knew I wasn’t ready to compete against the best golfers in the world,” Woods said.
Woods, 40, also pulled out of next month’s Turkish Airlines Open, which would have been his second start. Woods last played on Aug.
