Tiger Woods will not play again this year, announcing on Friday that he underwent microdiscectomy surgery on his back and will be out until at least early 2016.
Woods had been feeling discomfort in his back and hip area for several weeks, according to his website. An examination showed that the discomfort originated from his back. Woods chose surgery to abate these issues on September 16.
"This is certainly disappointing, but I'm a fighter," Woods said in a release. "I've been told I can make a full recovery, and I have no doubt that I will."
This is Woods' second microdiscectomy surgery, with the first coming on March 31, 2014, a procedure that forced him to miss the Masters and U.
