Thomas, Finau among rookies trying to make Tour Championship

It was a different FedEx Cup story for Morgan Hoffmann this year. He was the rags-to-riches story in 2013-14, starting the playoffs at No. 124 and working his way into the Tour Championship. But this year he started 82nd and couldn’t move into the top 70 so his playoffs are over after two starts.

Last year’s FEC star, Billy Horschel, is also having a different go-round this year. Whereas he started 69th a season ago and stormed to the overall title, this time around Horschel began 45th and has moved backward, to 67th.

Unless Horschel makes a massive move at Conway Farms, he will be the latest in a line of talented players who have not made it back to the Tour Championship to defend his FEC title.
