This one's for Happy: Mulflur guides Washington at NCAAs with heavy heart

BRADENTON, Fla. – As darkness fell on Concession Golf Club Sunday evening, Mary Lou Mulflur stood behind the 18th green and quietly sobbed. It was a curious site, given that her Washington team was in eighth place and miles from the cutline.

But those tears had nothing to do with golf. Mulflur, 57, had read an email from one of her brothers about the upcoming celebration of life for her mom, Winifred Mary, who died May 16 at age 88. Three days after her death, Mulflur and her top-ranked Huskies flew across the country for the NCAA Championship.
