The Place to Be at the British Open

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — When Jack and Sheena Willoughby bought the Dunvegan Hotel in 1994, it was a heart over head decision.

They were living in Aberdeen, Scotland, and had taken to coming to St. Andrews for golfing weekends. And, like many golf pilgrims before them, they were ultimately taken with the place.

At the Dunvegan Hotel bar, a conversation with the owner, who mentioned that he might be looking to sell, soon led to a phone call and a life change.

“I had a good job — we both did,” Jack Willoughby recalled.
