UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) -- The courtship of Chambers Bay is underway for a U.S. Open unlike any other.

Some of the flags on the greens might as well be there for decoration. Robert Streb was playing to the fourth green when he consulted with his caddie and realized his best line was the third USGA logo from the left on a large grandstand.

Retief Goosen hit an approach into the first green that was at the flag. It rolled to the left and trickled off the green. When he got to his ball, he had to use a laser to figure out how far he had to get to the hole.
