Tar Heel Intercollegiate cancelled due to Hurricane Joaquin

The threat of Hurricane Joaquin has hit college golf, as the impending storm has forced the cancellation of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.

The storm is expected to move up the Atlantic Ocean coastline this weekend, coinciding with the event scheduled at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. from October 3-4.

With the heavy rains and possible hurricane-like conditions forecasted in the region on those days, the 54-hole tournament was axed from the schedule. UNC head coach Andrew Sapp further voiced concerns about the course already being saturated by rain and the fact that teams would have faced the possibility of their flights being cancelled while trying to leave on Sunday.
