BRADENTON, Fla. –– Emma Talley had a 5-foot putt left for birdie on her final hole to clinch the NCAA Championship title when the horn blew suspending play. As onlookers grumbled about the ill-timed lightning delay, Talley went inside and had a peanut butter sandwich.
She came back a little under an hour later and rolled in the putt.
“I can’t even tell you how hard that was,” said Talley, who posted 3-under 285. She then had to endure another excruciating wait to see if Arkansas’ Gaby Lopez or Duke’s Leona Maguire, the top-ranked player in the country, could catch her.
