A decision on the course to stage the 2020 British Open could be made as early as tomorrow. The decision, if made, could bitterly disappoint Donald Trump.
Trump is not only campaigning hard to become the Republican nominee to run for the White House; he’s lobbying to bring the 2020 British Open to Turnberry, which he bought for $55 million in 2014. An educated guess says Turnberry is likely to lose out to Royal St George’s or Royal Lytham, with the former course being the more likely choice.
As reported previously in Golfweek, Trump acquired the mobile phone number of new R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers last year.
